Description
Yorozuyo Bridge — also known as Mansei Bridge, rebuilt in stone in the 1870s across the Kanda River — is shown at sunrise in this undated print, the early light catching the stone parapets and reflecting in the river below. The bridge was a key crossing on the route between the old shitamachi districts and the northern approaches to Tokyo, and Kiyochika's sunrise treatment gives the stone structure a monumental quality that contrasts with the delicate atmospheric effects surrounding it.
