Description
Okunotani at Tsukigase — the innermost valley of the Tsukigase plum grove area in Nara Prefecture — is depicted in this undated print in the intimate woodland setting of the ravine rather than the panoramic bay views typical of Matsushima or coastal landscape series. The composition likely belongs to the Nihon meishō zue series in which Kiyochika also depicted the Inner Valley at Tsukigase, offering complementary views of the same remote site accessed by pilgrims and landscape tourists.
