Description
A further variant of the Tsukigase inner valley subject, this undated print explores the dense forested gorge through which the Nabari River runs amid wild plum trees. Kiyochika treated this single site in multiple versions within the Famous Sights of Japan context, suggesting its scenic and atmospheric richness demanded more than a single composition to document. The forested depth of the valley, the rushing water, and the seasonal blossoms gave him all the elements of his finest landscape work.
