Description
Ommaya Bridge — one of the Sumida River crossings in the Imado district of eastern Tokyo — is depicted in this undated print with the low, horizontal compositional approach Kiyochika brought to bridge subjects throughout his Tokyo meisho career. The bridge's wooden structure, the river's dark surface, and the atmospheric sky above follow the compositional grammar he established in his earliest Tokyo works and refined across dozens of river and bridge subjects through the 1870s and 1880s.
