Description
The Tennoji shimo Koromogawa — the lower reach of the Koromo River below Tennō-ji temple in Hashiba — appears in this undated print as a companion to the dated 1880 Koromo River composition. The lower stretch of the river, closer to its confluence with the Sumida, would have had a broader, more sluggish character than the upstream reach below the temple buildings. Kiyochika's multiple treatments of the same waterway from different positions along its course reflect the systematic documentation of Tokyo's river geography that defined his meisho project.
