Description
A landscape featuring a lake and waterfall together gives Kotozuka two of his most characteristic natural subjects in a single composition — the still horizontal surface of water at rest and the dynamic vertical movement of falling water. The contrast between these two states of the same element (stillness and motion, horizontal and vertical, silent and sounding) creates a compositional tension that Kotozuka resolves through the careful balancing of his woodblock color masses.
