Description
Fuji 87, edition 150 of 200 from 1999, is among the most popular numbered works in Kaneko's extensive Mount Fuji series. Kaneko approaches Fuji not as a landscape painter but as a graphic designer: the mountain's instantly recognizable silhouette becomes a bold shape that he subjects to varying color treatments, atmospheric conditions, and compositional framings across dozens of prints. By the late 1990s, his Fuji series had become one of his signature bodies of work, beloved for its accessibility and chromatic energy.
