Description
A landscape in greens — summer or spring, the vegetation at its fullest — is Senpan's subject in this undated print, the dominant color of the composition providing both its title and its mood. Green landscapes in Senpan's work are among his most purely pleasurable, the season's abundance of leaf and growth creating a compositional richness that contrasts with the more austere winter subjects and the more dramatic autumn ones. The specific landscape — a riverbank, a mountain slope, a valley — is less important than the quality of green itself, the color of living growth.
