Description
Noboribetsu — the major hot spring resort complex in southern Hokkaido, its "Jigokudani" (Hell Valley) volcanic landscape creating one of Japan's most dramatic onsen settings — appears as a standalone print by Senpan, likely depicting the resort's distinctive combination of volcanic landscape and bathing facilities. Senpan returned to Noboribetsu in several works, drawn by the volcanic drama of the setting and the opportunity it provided for his characteristic onsen nude compositions in a landscape of unusual natural power.
