November — the eleventh month, when autumn is deepening toward winter and the last of the maple leaves are falling — is the subject of this undated Senpan print, the month itself the title rather than any specific landscape or figure. November in Japan is the season of the final autumn color — the momiji at their most intense before the bare branches of winter — and Senpan's November composition likely captures a specific aspect of this transitional moment: the falling of the last leaves, the cooling of the air, the particular quality of light in the season's final weeks.
