"Heap - 14" from around 1960 sits early in the numbered "Heap" series, the accumulated forms perhaps more tentative than in later works. Maki Haku's accumulation subjects allowed him to explore weight, gravity, and the visual sensation of mass without committing to specific imagery. The heap is both a formal configuration and an almost anti-compositional one — things gathered not by design but by gravitational accident, and yet his prints give the randomness a deliberate visual authority.
Curated cross-cuts that include this print.
