Description

"Number 79" is a later entry in Maki Haku's number series, by which point his formal vocabulary was fully established — the calligraphic marks, the embossed surfaces, the metallic pigments all deployed with the ease of mastery. The higher number suggests distance from the earlier, more experimental works in the series: this is a practitioner at command of his means, exploring rather than discovering. The neutrality of the title places all weight on the visual experience.
