Poem 70-11, Shôwa period, 1970

A large, irregularly torn white shape resembling a weathered stone or scroll fragment sits centered against a solid bright yellow ground, its surface covered in faint blind-embossed pictographic and calligraphic marks arranged in loose vertical columns. Just left of center, a small black circular motif divided into four quadrants by a cross interrupts the pale field. A red seal is stamped in the lower right corner, with pencil annotations (edition number, title, and signature) below the image on the mat. This is "Poem 70-11," a 1970 woodblock print by Maki Haku from the Shôwa period.
