Work 61 - E

This abstract composition sets two vertical bands of wood-grain texture in dark gray-brown against a warm beige ground, their edges torn and irregular rather than straight-cut. A pale gray-white circle overlaps the left plank, half falling across its dark grain and half against the beige background, while a mustard-yellow parallelogram and a solid black rectangle punctuate the space between and beside the right plank; two small red seal-like marks sit in the lower left. Pencil inscriptions along the bottom margin read the title and an edition number beside the artist's signature. Woodblock print, ink and color on paper, Work 61-E by Maki Haku, 1961.
