Description
Cozzolino's submission to the 2024 International Mokuhanga Conference, held in Echizen — the Fukui region long associated with Japanese papermaking, and where [washi](/glossary/washi) production for woodblock printing remains a living craft. The IMC, convened every three or four years since 2011, is the international gathering point for mokuhanga practitioners; submissions are exhibited alongside contributions from artists across Europe, North America, and Japan, and Cozzolino's inclusion reflects her place within the European mokuhanga community. As with her other prints, the work was carved and hand-printed by the artist herself on Japanese paper using water-based pigments and a [baren](/glossary/baren). Echizen submissions typically engage with the conference's themes of cross-cultural exchange and the contemporary expansion of mokuhanga beyond Japan — a direction Cozzolino has been part of within Italy, both through her own work and through the teaching that forms part of her practice.
