Revelation 4 describes John's vision of a throne in heaven with one seated upon it, encircled by twenty-four elders in white robes, four living creatures, and a rainbow about the throne. Maystorov's lithograph renders this celestial enthronement through the tonal range characteristic of stone lithography — velvety blacks, gradated greys, and reserved whites. The lithographic process suits the visionary subject, allowing fluid drawing on the stone with crayon and tusche to yield atmospheric, painterly passages rather than the hard linear contours of relief printmaking. As part of a chaptered cycle following the structure of the biblical text, this image inaugurates the apocalyptic visions proper. The series fits within Maystorov's sustained engagement with literary and biblical sources, where the Apocalypse offered a sequence of charged symbolic episodes for graphic interpretation. Issued in 2000, it sits within the body of work circulated through Lessedra's Bulgarian-Japanese print exchange and the 2003 Contemporary Bulgarian Art Prints touring exhibition in Kyoto and Tokushima.
