Description
Kimura Okaemon Sadayuki of the Gishi Shijushichi-zu continues the ronin portrait series with another of the warrior retainers who participated in the night raid. The formal structure of these prints—samurai in half- or three-quarter-length portrait, weapons and attributes indicating warrior status, name and clan identification in text—created a consistent visual framework within which Gekko exercised careful variation to prevent repetition across forty-seven figures.
