Description
Muramatsu Sandayu Takanao—the second Muramatsu in the forty-seven—appears as a distinct figure from his relative Kihei, Gekko having to differentiate members of the same family within the consistent portrait format. The challenge of representing family members as visually distinct individuals within a shared historical moment was one of the more subtle demands of the comprehensive ronin series, requiring the artist to imagine plausible familial resemblance without identical representation.
