Description
Okano Kinemon Kanehide of the Gishi Shijushichi-zu series adds another warrior to the comprehensive collection. Okano was one of the samurai who had been dismissed from the Asano household before the incident that triggered the vendetta, and his choice to rejoin his former colleagues anyway elevated his loyalty above mere obligation—he avenged a lord who was no longer technically his master. This complexity gave his figure additional moral depth within the series.
