Description
The 1895 portrait of one of the officers of the warship Akagi—a vessel famous for its role in the Battle of the Yellow Sea—documents a naval officer from one of the Sino-Japanese War's most celebrated engagements. The Akagi's officers had become heroes through the ship's tenacious fighting while severely damaged; the portrait of one of its officers carried the reflected glory of the vessel's storied performance.
