Description
Onodera Junai Hidekazu of the Gishi Shijushichi-zu series appears with a Temples and Shrines tag suggesting either that Onodera's specific portrait is set in a religious context, or that the print depicts a scene associated with the ronin's devotional activities—the group was known to have prayed at Sengakuji temple, where their master was buried, before and after the raid. The sacred space of the temple grounds gave the warrior portrait an additional dimension of pious commitment.
