Description
Shioda Matanojo Takanori of the Gishi Shijushichi-zu series adds another warrior to the forty-seven ronin portrait collection. Shioda, like many of the group's members, left limited historical records beyond his participation in the raid itself, making Gekko's portrait a creative act of historical imagination—inventing a plausible human presence for a man whose actual physical appearance was entirely lost to history, yet whose identity was preserved in the name and act.
