Himeji Castle in autumn, dated 1949, presents Japan's most celebrated surviving castle — designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site — in its seasonal autumnal surround. The castle's brilliant white walls and complex rooflines are set against the warm colors of autumn foliage, creating one of Hashimoto's most chromatically rich castle compositions. Printed in the early postwar period when Himeji, having survived the war's destruction, stood as a powerful symbol of Japanese architectural heritage and cultural continuity.
