Description
A rice paddy landscape extending toward distant hills is structured through Hashimoto's characteristically geometric approach to the natural world — the flooded fields reduced to precise horizontal bands of color, the irregular forms of the rice plants regularized into repeating patterns. Printed in 1957, this landscape demonstrates his ability to apply the same compositional discipline he brought to castle architecture to the agricultural terrain of the Japanese countryside. The work is among his more pastoral subjects, evidence that his geometric sensibility was not exclusively urban.
