Description
Courtyard B (Nakaniwa B), printed in 1968 in an edition of five, presents the interior architectural space of a traditional Japanese compound — the enclosed garden or courtyard that provided light, air, and seasonal beauty to the buildings surrounding it. Hashimoto's treatment of the courtyard subject applied his characteristic geometric discipline to a more intimate scale than his castle compositions, the enclosed space creating a study in contained proportion and the relationship between built and natural elements within a bounded frame.
