$1,000–$8,000. Common subjects: $1,000–$2,500. Key value factors: Hashimoto's bold castle prints are his most recognizable and collected works. Larger formats command premiums.
Garden with a Gutter, printed in 1960, presents the utilitarian infrastructure of a traditional Japanese garden — the drainage channel that manages rainwater while becoming a garden element in its own right. Hashimoto was drawn to the structural and functional dimensions of garden design that other artists might overlook in favor of more obviously picturesque elements, and the gutter with its precise stone lining and the patterns it creates in the gravel or moss alongside it provided him with an architectural subject at intimate scale.
