Nishikori Castle

Nishikori Castle, printed in 1954, depicts one of Japan's lesser-known historic fortifications with the same architectural reverence Hashimoto brought to more celebrated castles. His interest in documenting Japan's castle heritage extended beyond the famous few to embrace regional and secondary fortifications whose architectural character and historical significance deserved equal attention. The 1954 date places this work in the early postwar period when the reconstruction and preservation of Japan's historic architectural heritage was becoming a cultural priority.
