Amatsu (formally Amatsu-Kominato) is a small fishing and pilgrimage port on the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, home to the Tamasaki Jinja shrine and its annual boat festival. This print depicts a festival vessel — likely a decorated matsuri-bune — moored or navigating the harbor during a local celebration. Hashimoto brings his architectural eye to the boat's construction: the curved hull, tiered canopy structures, and festival lanterns rendered with the same precision he applied to castle towers and temple rooflines. The composition likely places the vessel against water and a coastal shoreline, using flat color blocks and [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradations to distinguish sky from sea. Within Hashimoto's body of work, this print represents his occasional departure from strictly terrestrial architecture toward subjects where constructed forms — boats, their rigging and ornamental superstructures — meet landscape. The [sosaku-hanga](/glossary/sosaku-hanga) principle of single-artist execution is evident throughout; Hashimoto carved each detail of the vessel's joinery and decorative elements himself on separate blocks.
