Stone Lantern (E)

Stone Lantern (E), printed in 1964 in an edition of sixty-one, presents the toro — the traditional stone garden lantern — with the detailed attention Hashimoto brought to all stone architectural elements. The E variant designation indicates a specific treatment within a larger lantern series, and the relatively large edition of sixty-one suggests this was among his more successful and widely distributed stone lantern compositions. The lantern's complex carved form, with its base, shaft, fire chamber, and cap, presented him with a subject of considerable architectural richness in miniature.
