$1,000–$8,000. Snow and night scenes tend to command premium prices for this artist. Key value factors: Hashimoto's bold castle prints are his most recognizable and collected works. Larger formats command premiums.
Unknown, house at night, dated 1964, presents a traditional Japanese dwelling in the darkness of nighttime — its form defined by the geometric pattern of lighted shoji screens against an otherwise dark exterior. Night transformed Hashimoto's usual approach to architecture: where his daytime compositions emphasized structural detail and surface texture, his nocturnal subjects made of buildings silhouettes punctuated by the warm glow of interior illumination. The lighted shoji of a house at night created a grid of light that appealed strongly to his geometric sensibility.
