"Rest" addresses one of the simplest and most universal of human experiences — the cessation of activity, the suspension of effort, the quality of being at rest — through the formal means of abstract or semi-abstract printmaking. Onchi's "Rest" may depict a resting figure, or may render the experience of rest itself as a quality of composition: the colors settling, the forms becoming still, the spatial relationships achieving a balance that corresponds to the bodily experience of relaxation. Either approach represents his characteristic ambition to give visual form to experiential states.
