$2,000–$15,000. As part of a celebrated series, this print benefits from strong collector demand. Good landscapes and figures: $5,000–$10,000. Key value factors: As a living artist continuing the shin-hanga tradition, Binnie's prints are investment-quality. Limited editions and larger formats are most valued.
From the Famous Views of Japan series, this print depicts the mountain temple of Yamadera in Yamagata prefecture — a complex of stone-carved halls and pagodas clinging to the cliffs above a steep valley, reached by a long stairway of over a thousand steps. Basho climbed Yamadera in 1689 and wrote his most celebrated haiku there; the site carries the weight of Japanese literary and spiritual history. Binnie's bokashi gradations render the mountain and temple in the atmospheric light of the shin-hanga landscape tradition.
