$2,000–$15,000. As part of a celebrated series, this print benefits from strong collector demand. Good landscapes and figures: $5,000–$10,000. Key value factors: As a living artist continuing the shin-hanga tradition, Binnie's prints are investment-quality. Limited editions and larger formats are most valued.
From the Famous Views of Japan series, this night print depicts the Yomeimon gate at Nikko — one of the most elaborately ornamented structures in Japan, its surfaces covered in carvings of dragons, phoenixes, and mythological figures. At night, the gate's ornamental complexity disappears into shadow, leaving only the broad structural forms illuminated by lantern or moonlight. Binnie's treatment of the night scene would employ his characteristic dark bokashi gradations to create the deep, rich atmosphere of the sacred site at rest.
