"Lingering Dreams" (Yume no ato, meaning "after the dream") evokes the state of half-waking when the contents of sleep still cling to consciousness before dissolving in the light of the fully woken day. The subject is intimate and interior — the figure caught in the space between sleep and awareness, still partly in another reality. Binnie's treatment of this liminal state in the bijin-ga mode would deploy soft atmospheric light and the quality of diffused color to suggest the dream world's residual presence.
