Description

From the Travels with the Master series, Lugano — the Italian-speaking Swiss city on its lakeside, with its southern European light and its position at the intersection of Alpine and Mediterranean climates — gives Binnie a European urban landscape with strong atmospheric character. The lake, the surrounding mountains, and the quality of light that results from this geography offer the shin-hanga landscape vocabulary a subject that is different from anything in Japan but equally suited to its characteristic treatment of light, water, and atmosphere.
