Description
A collaged composition on a mustard-and-grey ground, built from panels of printed Japanese calligraphic text pasted over a warm ochre field with a pale circular moon shape at upper left. A helmeted samurai figure with an upturned moustache and topknot stands right of centre in a patterned kimono, one hand on his hip and the other resting near a sheathed sword at his waist; an identical but inverted (upside-down) copy of the same figure's head and shoulders is collaged at the upper left, overlapping the moon. Muted browns, ochres, and greys dominate, with fine black linework throughout; signed "P. Furneaux" in the lower right corner.
