Description
A print from April 1958 — among Jacoulet's final works before his death in 1960 — depicting cherry blossoms in the shade of the afternoon. The Japanese sakura subject treated late in his life carries elegiac weight: the artist, who had spent his entire adult life in Japan, turning in his final years to the country's most beloved seasonal subject. His interpretation of the cherry blossom would have combined the warmth of deep personal familiarity with the vivid, gold-flecked color palette that defined his mature work.
