Description

A young woman with dark hair pinned up stands in profile against a deep blue background, wearing a pale embroidered dress with small floral and dotted motifs and a scalloped, lace-trimmed neckline and sleeves; she rests her hands on a light-colored horizontal rail. To her left, large white magnolia-like blossoms and pale green leaves fill the composition, while a spider's web rendered in fine white lines stretches across the blue at upper right. Paul Jacoulet's 1941 color woodblock print, "Evening Flowers. Toloas Truk," printed on paper under glass, bears his signature and a red seal in the lower right corner.
