$500–$5,000. Common Biblical prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Watanabe's warm, folk-art Biblical prints have a devoted collector base. Larger formats and earlier works command more.
A fishing scene — depicting the disciples at work on the Sea of Galilee or perhaps one of the miraculous catch narratives — gives Watanabe a subject in which the natural world (water, fish, the physical labor of hauling nets) is fully present alongside the human and spiritual. His katazome stencil technique handles the fish with the same bold, simplified form as the fishermen: each element of the scene given equal visual weight, the spiritual potential of ordinary work made visible through the dignity of the rendering.
