Description
A robed, bearded figure in profile holds a large key on the right side of the composition, facing a second pale, mask-like face at upper right; a stylized winged or leaf-like form crowns the upper left. The print is rendered almost entirely in indigo blue on a mottled, textured ground, with white and pale-blue linework picking out the figures' features, patterned drapery, and small floral rosettes scattered around them. The overall effect is flat and graphic, with bold black outlines and a dense, rough-textured surface across the whole sheet.
Peter and the Key, woodblock print by Sadao Watanabe, year unknown.
