$500–$5,000. Common Biblical prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Watanabe's warm, folk-art Biblical prints have a devoted collector base. Larger formats and earlier works command more.
Three fishermen — likely disciples drawn from their boats by Jesus' call, or workers at their ordinary labor on the Galilean sea — give Watanabe a subject that combines the communal solidarity of working men with the specific cultural context of the Gospel narratives. The three figures together create a stronger visual mass than a single fisherman, and the repetition of their similar postures and equipment gives the composition its characteristic mingei rhythm: the same basic form varied three times, creating both unity and individual presence.
