Transfer: Guglgasse

Transfer: Guglgasse documents one of Schneider's site-specific interventions on Guglgasse, a street in Vienna's 11th district (Simmering) that has undergone substantial post-industrial redevelopment. The Transfer series records the act of pressing a hand-cut woodblock directly onto an architectural surface in the urban environment, then capturing the resulting impression on washi using baren rubbing — a hybrid practice that relocates the moku hanga matrix from the studio to the street. The print typically registers fragmentary text, brick texture, or pavement grain in a single ink, with bokashi gradations introduced where uneven contact loads the block. Schneider's Transfer works extend the lineage of moku hanga he absorbed at Tokyo Geidai into the Viennese Gemeindebau and Gründerzeit fabric of his home city, and form a sustained dialogue between Austrian printmaking traditions and Japanese woodblock methodology that has defined his bi-continental practice since 1990.
