Description
"Military Grand Parade" depicts the formal ceremonial spectacle of a military procession — the precise ranks of uniformed soldiers, the flags, the bands, the public display of state power through organized human movement. Kawakami's treatment of this martial subject through his characteristically simplified, warm compositional style would have given the parade a quality more festive than threatening — the visual spectacle of ordered bodies in motion observed with the same affectionate curiosity he brought to all organized human activity.
