Description
Printed in 1959, a period when Ono was consolidating his mature style, this bridge composition reflects his sustained fascination with the infrastructure of modern Japanese cities. Bridges offered him both a structural subject — the elegant engineering of span and support — and a compositional armature: the diagonal or arc cutting across the picture plane to create depth and tension. The print belongs to a body of work documenting Tokyo and its surroundings during rapid postwar transformation.
