Description
An evocative and ambiguous title from one of Ono's more abstract works, suggesting earth, grit, and the raw texture of the physical world. Ono's engagement with materiality extended beyond subject matter to process — the grain of the woodblock itself, the resistance of the gouge, the variable pressure of printing all contributed to a surface that carried the marks of labor. A print titled "Dirt" may foreground exactly that quality of physical presence.
