Description
The Komagata Bridge in Asakusa, spanning the Sumida River in shitamachi Tokyo, was one of Ono's recurring subjects. He returned to Tokyo bridges repeatedly throughout his career, using them as formal exercises in structure, reflection, and the relationship between engineered span and flowing water. Komagata Bridge's clean lines and the shimmer of the Sumida gave him material that naturally suited his graphic vocabulary of flat shapes and strong silhouettes.
