Description
The bridge over the Arno at Pisa, seen in 1962, gave Ono an Italian subject continuous with his lifelong fascination with river-crossing structures. Pisa's medieval bridges carry a different visual weight from Tokyo's steel spans, but Ono finds the same formal interest in both — the arc of the crossing, the reflections in the water beneath, the relationship between built structure and natural flow. The print is dated, placing it precisely within his European travel series.
