Description
A print by Tagawa Ken in the collection of the Legion of Honor museum in San Francisco, part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco system. The Legion of Honor holds significant Japanese print holdings, and Tagawa's presence there reflects the strong West Coast appreciation for Japanese art that developed through decades of cultural exchange across the Pacific. San Francisco's Japanese American community and its proximity to Japan made the city a natural gateway for the reception of modern Japanese prints in America. Tagawa's work found a receptive audience among collectors drawn to the directness and material honesty of the sosaku hanga tradition.
