$200–$1,500. Common prints: $200–$500. Key value factors: Takahashi's prints are modestly priced. Quality examples with strong design are most valued.
A 1964 woodblock print in ink and color on paper that takes an invisible natural force as its subject. Wind cannot be seen directly, only through its effects on visible things: bending grasses, flying debris, rippling water, billowing fabric. Takahashi faces the challenge of rendering this invisible force in a static printed image, likely using directional lines, tilted forms, and areas of disrupted pattern to convey the pressure and movement of air in motion. The subject is simultaneously elemental and abstract, connecting to the natural world while demanding a non-representational visual strategy. Among the classical Japanese aesthetic categories, wind occupies a special place as an agent of change and impermanence, scattering blossoms and reshaping landscapes.
