Description
A view of one of Kyoto's smaller urban canals — the city's network of waterways once serving as vital arteries for commerce and transportation before becoming primarily ornamental features of the landscape. Tanaka's canal prints share a contemplative quality: the still water mirrors the overhanging architecture, the stone embankments show the accumulated wear of centuries, and the compressed corridor of water and sky creates a particular kind of Kyoto intimacy.
